3 Tips for Dressing Your Child For School Portrait Day
What to wear? What to wear?
That’s one of our most asked questions when it comes to getting kids ready for their school portraits.
Now call us biased, but we really think our school portrait program, Recess, is the cream of the crop when it comes to school pictures. We liken each student’s time in front of the camera as a “mini” mini session.
The last thing we want is for parents to miss the opportunity to capitalize on modern school photographs of their children all because they didn’t think through the best outfit option for photo day!
So keep reading for our top three tips on choosing outfits for your kiddos to make sure you capitalize on photographs - we’re thinking grandparent gifts, gallery walls, photo mugs for Father’s Day - there really are so many ways to use your school portraits!
1. Neutrals are our jam (but avoid stark white)!
You really cannot go wrong with neutrals. Whether its a chambray shirt, or a soft cream top, neutrals rock in front of any backdrop color (at least any backdrop color we choose here at Loft Creative!). Jeans and a neutral top, leather sandals, or simple tennis shoes all help create a classic look that you will love! Stark white comes across as stiff, or sometimes a little sterile. It’s not the end of the world if you send your student in a stark white shirt, it’s just not our first choice!
2. Save the graphic tees and neon colors for another school day! ;-)
Of course you can still send your kid in their Pokemon sweatshirt. And, odds are, you’ll love their photos just the same! But, graphic tees, and bright neon colors do distract from the simplicity of your little one’s photographs. We liken it to the blue eyeshadow of the 80’s…something you may not want to remember in a decade or two.
3. Coordinate those siblings!
If you’ve got more than one child attending the school we are photographing , we highly recommend coordinating their outfits! You might decide you love their photographs so much that you want to create a gallery wall.
This doesn’t mean everyone has to be in the same outfit. Pairing various patterns in the same colors is a win in our book!
