Hello, Parents, welcome to Recess!

A MODERN PORTRAIT DAY EXPERIENCE FOR SCHOOLS IN CENTRAL TEXAS

The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do.

- Andy Warhol -

As we each sent our own kids off to preschool, we quickly found
that picture day portraits had not been updated in quite some time, like really…decades.
We saw the opportunity to bring a fresh take to a time-honored tradition,
giving schools a better portrait day and giving parents print-worthy photographs of their students.

Goodbye, tacky neon backdrops, pumpkin props and picket fence backgrounds. If you know, you know.
Through Recess, our modern school portrait program, we aim to capture your student in a
timeless way so you can cherish this moment for decades to come.

Just a few things to help you
get ready for picture day:

  1. All ordering takes place after picture day when your student’s online gallery is delivered. We want you to only purchase what you love, so we do not collect money or order forms before picture day.

  2. Our backdrops are neutral in style; choose outfits accordingly (if your student does not wear a school uniform): You won’t find your kid holding a pumpkin or plopped in front of a picket fence with bunnies.
We are contenders for classic imagery that you will love for years to come. We want you to look back in 20 years and still find your school portraits to be beautiful and timeless. All our students are photographed on a seamless paper backdrop, ranging in color from neutral soft gray to dark grey. We work with the school to choose the backdrop they want used for this respective academic year.

  3. We don’t force kids to smile: Most kids will strike a pose for the camera. But some children are naturally more timid when it comes to picture day. We never force a child to smile. Though we do go to great lengths to keep them happy in front of the camera, we love to capture them just how they are, and sometimes that means they may not give us that full grin.

  4. We love a great candid: If you do have a student with ahem…personality, be prepared for some non-traditional photographs in your gallery. If you’ve got an expressive kid you may have some laughing photographs, silly faces and more in your student’s online gallery.

  5. We operate under a cry policy: We recognize picture day can be a new experience for young students. We do take extra care to work with timid students to help them acclimate to being photographed, however, due to the time constraints of school picture day, we cannot guarantee pictures of your young one if they do not cooperate or if they start to cry. We never want a student to be left crying in hopes of getting a picture between their tears and sniffles. Thank you for understanding.

Thank you for allowing our team to document your precious children,

Everything you need to know to get ready for portrait day!

  • All galleries are emailed to parents about 2 weeks after picture day. We will have the school send an email to their school list the day galleries go out so you can be on the lookout for the emails. Be sure to check your spam folder as they sometimes end up there.

  • If your school does not require uniforms, we highly recommend dressing your kids in neutrals or subtle patterns. We suggest avoiding graphic tees if possible.

  • All ordering takes place online.

Parents are linked to a unique password-protected gallery and can view/order portraits through their gallery. Each child will be provided at least 2-5 images, presented in both color and black and white. The family may choose the photos they want printed, as opposed to having a pose chosen for them.

We also provide product choices such as digital images for future printing and archiving.

  • Yes! You have personal reprint release to print up to 16x20 inches if you aren’t ordering prints through your online gallery. We cannot guarantee the color/quality of outside third party print manufacturers, but highly recommend mpix.com if you are going to go with another print company!

  • Please reach out to hello@loftcreative.co if you do not receive your oder within two weeks of ordering. We will follow up with our printing company to make sure you receive your order.

  • Makeup day is on a case by case basis with our schools. If your school does not have a makeup day we invite you to join us at our annual school portrait pop-up happening October 7th, 2023 at our downtown New Braunfels studio.

  • All purchasing takes place after portrait day.

We offer a variety of collections and a-la-carte products to fit everyone's needs. VIEW A SAMPLE PRICE SHEET HERE

There is no minimum order requirement and, since all orders are placed after viewing a student’s photographs, parents are allowed to choose both how much they order and if they want to order.

PICTURE DAY CRY POLICY

We try our very best to photograph each student in a genuine and joy-filled way. Yet, picture day can be a new experience for preschoolers and young kids. If tears ensue, we do try to settle young children in order to document them. However, we never make a child stay seated for portraits if they are crying. We do not believe in forcing a student to smile or stay seated in order to get a good photograph and will mark them as a “cry” student on the roster.

Due to the nature of picture day and the fact that we have many students to document in a short amount of time we cannot take additional time to keep retrying to photograph a crying student. We invite parents of those students to consider booking a spot at our downtown New Braunfels school portrait pop-up event or book a session at our studio.

We reserve the right to stop photographing a crying student. Thank you for your understanding.
